Account
Why doesn’t CIRCLE need my phone number?
Your phone number reveals a lot and is hard to change. In CIRCLE you sign in with Apple and choose an @handle instead, so you can share how to reach you without giving out your number. CIRCLE also never uploads your contacts.
How do I find friends?
Share your @handle, or show your QR code so a friend can scan it. You can search for someone by their @handle and send a chat request. A link like jijilabsdigital.com/circle/u/yourhandle opens your profile in CIRCLE for anyone who has the app.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings → Delete account and confirm. This erases your account, @handle and profile, deactivates your messaging account and revokes CIRCLE’s Sign in with Apple authorization. Messages already delivered stay on the devices of the people you talked with. You can also email support@jijilabsdigital.com to request deletion. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Chats and safety
How do chat requests work?
When someone you haven’t accepted wants to talk, they can only send you a request. They can’t message you until you accept. Open Requests to accept, decline or block. When you start a chat with someone new, they get a chat request and you can talk as soon as they accept.
How do I block or report someone?
Open the chat, tap the menu, then choose Report or Block. Blocked people can’t message you. We review reports within 24 hours. Read our Community Guidelines for what’s not allowed.
What are Circles?
Each person you chat with sits in a Circle: Inner, Friends or Others. Your Circle settings decide who sees your read receipts and typing indicator, whose chats notify you and who can call you.
Can I turn off read receipts?
Yes. Choose which Circles see them, or switch read receipts off completely in Settings.
How do calls work?
Open a chat and tap the phone or video button. One-to-one calls are peer to peer and end-to-end encrypted. If a direct connection isn’t possible, the encrypted call is relayed through a server that can’t decrypt it. As with any peer-to-peer call, the other person’s device can see your IP address during the call. Only people in Circles you allow can call you.
Can CIRCLE read my messages?
No. One-to-one and group chats, including photos, videos and voice messages, are end-to-end encrypted with the Matrix protocol (Olm and Megolm), and calls are end-to-end encrypted too. Group names and group photos are not end-to-end encrypted. Our server only stores encrypted content and the metadata needed to deliver it. Notifications never carry message content. “Catch up” summaries and reply suggestions run on your iPhone with Apple’s on-device model.
Restoring chats
How do I restore my chats on a new iPhone?
When you set up encrypted key backup, CIRCLE shows you a recovery key. Save it somewhere safe, such as a password manager. On your new iPhone, sign in with the same Apple Account, open Settings → Restore with recovery key and enter it to unlock your message history.
I lost my recovery key. Can you recover it?
No. The recovery key is created on your device and only you hold it, so we can’t see or reset it. Without it, older encrypted messages can’t be decrypted on a new device, but you can keep using your account and new messages will work normally.
Features
Who can see my Vibe, Soundtrack and Halos?
Only signed-in people who share a chat with you. These are stored on our server as profile data and are not end-to-end encrypted (Halo photos are encrypted before upload, but the key to view them is stored with your Halo). Soundtrack is off unless you turn it on and only shares the song title and artist. Halos disappear from CIRCLE after 24 hours.
Why don’t I see Catch up or reply suggestions?
These features use Apple’s on-device model, which is available only on supported iPhones with a compatible iOS version and Apple Intelligence turned on.
