1. Open Family settings (enter your PIN) and choose NAS.
2. Enter the NAS address, user name, password and the folder that holds your films.
3. Save. Your films appear under Choose films.

Synology, BeeStation, QNAP, Windows and Mac shares work over SMB. Playing your own films needs Popcorn Otter Plus.

On the PIN screen, choose the forgot option. You will be asked a grown-up multiplication question, then you can set a new PIN.

Children see only the films a parent has switched on. You can approve a single film, or a whole folder so new episodes appear by themselves. Locked Plus films are hidden from children.

• Daily time per child, with a different allowance for weekends.
• Films per sitting: for example two films, then a break.
• Bedtime and wake time. In the last 10 minutes before bed the picture dims and the sound gets quieter (wind-down).
• Finish this film first: lets a film end instead of stopping mid-story, for up to 20 extra minutes.
• Loudest volume limit.

On the Apple TV open Family settings › iPhone to see a 6-digit code. Enter it in the Popcorn Otter iPhone app. Both devices must be on the same home Wi-Fi. The iPhone app is a free companion that uses the same purchase.

Subscribe: Family settings › Plus › See Plus. Plus is auto-renewing; new subscribers get a 1-month free trial.

Cancel: Apple TV: Settings › Users and Accounts › Subscriptions. iPhone: Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Refund requests go to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Restore: Family settings › Plus › Restore, signed in with the same Apple Account.

• The Apple TV and the NAS must be on the same Wi-Fi or network.
• SMB file sharing must be turned on at the NAS.
• Check the folder path, user name and password in Family settings › NAS.
• Make sure you have approved the films under Choose films.

On supported Apple TV models. They are made on the device with Apple’s speech recognition and are never uploaded.

Delete the app. To also remove synced settings from iCloud, first turn off iCloud sync in the app under About. We never hold a copy of your data, so we cannot restore it.
